Never Bet on A Hockey Game!

While I was listening to NHL Live today, Don La Greca made the mistake of betting a Leaf fan from Toronto that they would NOT be able to beat the Rangers tonight.  He seemed incredibly confident in his prediction.  “I’m not even going to bring my wallet to work tomorrow.”  His side-kick E.J. thought that was a bit bold on his part.  But Don seemed content in his decision the Leafs could NOT beat the Rangers.

Well, I guess that’s why they call it gambling.  Just as the Islanders have fallen to teams they were “sure” to beat -- so have the Rangers.  Lundquist could not win this one for them and the final score was 6 – 2, scoring 2 goals in each of the three periods.  I believe I even heard them say that Antropov had his first hat trick.

So even the Mighty King Henrick can fail; proof positive that it can happen to the best of them.  I guess that’s why they call it a game.  But I’d say it’s obviously one NOT to be gambled with.  Too many variables come into play and there ARE no SURE things.

Don, go to work tomorrow not only with your wallet to pay up, but also with your pride in your pocket.  I hope you’ve learned your lesson.  If not, I’m sure the listeners will make sure you don’t easily forget.

Let’s hope the Islanders have the same “luck” over the Panthers tomorrow.  Bet’cha $5 they win?  Nah!  Better to just be surprised.
