Unique perspectives from 7th Woman
I think Ted probably woke up with that same smile on his face from last night. Not only did his “most underrated player” save the day, but his son managed his first point in the NHL last night. Proud Dad, happy coach.
Due to the overwhelming amount of items on my “to do” list yesterday, I didn’t make it out to the Coliseum. By 7:30, I was disappointed in myself for not going. Not only did IQ tell me “you suck!” when I told her I wasn’t going and I would miss out on seeing a the NYIC crew, but then I found out that VP Chris Botta (Lord & Master of the Blog Box idea) was honored for his 20 years of excellent servitude to the Islander family. Gee… it usually takes TWENTY-FIVE years to get that gold watch. Hmmmmmm… I wonder. (Yes, I’m a cynic.) Congratulations CB. You deserve all that and more.
So I managed to watch the game, bake cookies, make a cake, mold chocolates, wrap gifts and drink a shaker full of Coffee Martinis all while I was watching the Islanders take on the Caps. I AM the Queen of Multi-tasking folks!
It was a little odd to hear names of ex-Islanders being mentioned on the Caps team: Kozlov, Poti, and Erskine. It was equally odd to hear the crowd boo Tom Poti. What the heck is that about? I did some yelling at the TV, as we all do sitting in the confines of our living room. (Don’t lie, you know you do.) I also gasped in amazement as Sean leaped over Kolzig after Miro’s big goal. I thanked the Hockey Gods profusely for letting Guerin get a much needed goal and shrieked in pain as Alexander the Great got one past Ricky with only a few seconds left in the third. THAT is why he IS “Gr8”. Without him, they would have left
But Richard Park doesn’t scare easily and went out and won the game with 1:17 left in overtime. Ok, he had a little help from the Hockey Gods himself. It seems Park was left with that little bit of wiggle room he needed because Washington Cap #52, Green (hopefully that’s right) was writhing in pain from being hit with a stick to the face by one of his own teammates. Their misfortune is Park’s gain. And we’ll take the two points, Thank you.
Sorry to hear that I missed some other members of the NYIC message board crew at the Gate 1 meet & greet last night. Again… Wish I could have been there! But I also see that my friend Greg Logan didn’t make it out to the barn last night either as it’s not his by-line on the articles this morning. Maybe his “to-do” list runneth over as well.
Oh well… it’s a long season. Happy Holidays to everyone in Islanders Country!
