Today, the Number is FIVE

Five shots, five hits for Sean Bergenheim tonight.  I love hearing Jaffe and Nolan talk so highly of him these last few games.   Of course the only one who ISN’T talking highly about him yet is Big Angry Man.  He is relentless, and just somewhat unfair in my eyes.  Sean has given his all when given the chance.  He’s not afraid of anything or anyone and although still young, playing a much smarter game.  His goals will come in time.  And that time should be SOON if he keeps working the way he is.

Let B   I know you’re doing all the things you need to do.  Keep it up, I have faith.  And I know a lot of other people have faith in you too.

A win always makes me disappointed that I didn’t make it out to the barn.  But I’m one of those white knuckle drivers in bad weather conditions, and until I become famous enough to have my own driver, I’ll continue to miss out while being cautious.  I hope everyone else makes it home safely and the roads haven’t iced up too badly.

I had intentions of going all day.  I even loaded up the car with the usual game day luggage:  A full change of clothes, the camera, the orange purse, the recorder and the notebook.  I also packed the snow boots since I had no idea if it was snow, ice or rain that would greet me when I left the office tonight.  But after listening to the radio, and emailing friends and family, I just couldn’t motivate.  It’s now 9:55 pm; I’d just be leaving Nassau County and facing a lonely, cold 45 minute ride on the icy parkway.  Um…. No thanks.  I may be lonely here while someone I know is out on a call, but at least I’m warm and the couch isn’t sliding into a divider.

Night all.

And the Number is "3"

Three.  Not quite the SEVEN I was looking for from this 4 game road trip.  Not even half actually.  But it looks like that what’s we’ve have.  Three points.  And a new number of goals per game:  Three.   I’d say it’s that’s not even “good,” which Ted always claims “Good, is not good enough.”  I’d say its down-right mediocre.  This is going to put this team in a bad situation point-wise down the road.

As all my detractors say I don’t know anything about the ‘game’ itself, I’d like to ask this:  Is there some new sort of JEDI training going on at Iceworks trying to teach passing to line mates while blindfolded?  Well, it looks that way to me.  The last two games I noticed quite a few “blind” passes that missed their mark completely or were turned over.  What gives?  I understand perfect chemistry is knowing where your line mate is being able to pass tape to tape without losing a stride, but so far I think that chemistry is sadly lacking.  How about LOOKING first before you pass?

On a brighter note, Sean Bergenheim had a great game.  He didn’t gain a point in the goal column last night, but at least he attained one in the assist column on Park’s.  Park always has a great game; he’s just a pleasure to watch.  And Sillinger’s goal celebrations are always a joy to behold.

Gentlemen, it’s time to bring the on-ice success to the same level as your organization’s off-ice efforts.  While the Islanders organization is enjoying success in their marketing and community efforts, you’re not helping them much by losing games you should be winning.  The spirit is willing, the goals are weak.  Work on it.
