Unique perspectives from 7th Woman
I should have known not to shut off my computer and put away my camera with six minutes left to the third last night. I also should have known it would have been wise to make a final trip to the ladies room prior to that as well. But as luck would have it, the six minutes turned into three times that as the Isles and Sens ended the game with a shoot out. A shoot out win for the Islanders that IS! Jinx No MORE! I had a feeling this morning listening to NHLLive on XM that the curse would be broken. I don't know why, I just did. Streaks don't last forever, and last night, one of their bad ones came to a close.
Ricky must have felt that weight off his shoulders as he held onto Witt for a good 15 seconds on the ice after that glove save he made on the final shooter.
Back in Press Room 6, Ted Nolan was quietly happy and in his own refined way, gushing over the play of his team. BTW, love his new tie wardrobe I think it's helping. Four minutes with Ted, and then the cameras and microphones left and the Blog Box crew was left in Room 6 waiting for instructions. Much to my surprise, Corey Witt came in and said "The locker room is open." I remained sitting. "You can go in."
I was dumbfounded. For two months I was told it would be best if I didn't join them, tonight they say "go". Islesblogger.com Mike S looked at me with wide eyes. "Well? Are you GOING??" So I jumped up, gathered my belongings and followed him. I stayed as close to Mike as I could as we loitered in the hall for a few seconds before being ushered into the back of the locker room. The rest of my BB cohorts joined in the tight circle around Mike Sillinger as he sat in his stall with tape recorders and cameras 10 inches from his face. I lost Ken Dick in the crowd, and B.D. blended in so well with the "real" media, I couldn't find him either. But Mike was in the last row with his recorder high over everyone's heads rolling his eyes and looking at me. Why you may ask?
Because while all this media attention was being focused on goal scoring Mike Sillinger, Shakey was on the other side of the small room having a bout of Tourrets outbursts as he kept saying the same thing over and OVER and OVER, loud. VERY loud. And no one from the media dept told him to shut up. I found that odd. The mother in me wanted to turn around and shush him. But I wasn't moving.
As I knew this was one of those situations I would get more out of on ITV than in real life, I turned to exit and got the shock of my life. "Where are you going? You have to stay IN here."
Great. So first they wouldln't let me IN the room, now they won't let me out. No problem. I do as I"m told. Greg Logan felt the same sort of entrapment as he had an early deadline at Newsday that was FAST approaching, but there was one more player being brought into the room. I knew he'd make his deadline, he always does. Luckily, Bill Guerin didn't talk for very long. But who would standing in a towel with an icepack taped to a knee.
Great win. Good night. And my only complaint is I waited for the guys to be finished so they could walk me back to my car that was parked in Guam. If I'm going to keep wearing heels to these games, I need a shuttle bus to my car.
Onto the Rangers!!
