Unique perspectives from 7th Woman
Although the entire day was filled with some very strange energy, it culminated in a victory that I wasn't 100% sure would come. The board was buzzing earlier than usual yesterday as everyone was nervously awaiting the third matchup against the Rangers. If we were that wound up, I can't imagine how the team felt all day.
As it was a game day, I made sure I wore my colors to work for all the Ranger fans to see. Because win or lose, every game, I stand behind them. Some times cowering, some times cheering, but I stand behind them non-the-less.
At 5:26 pm, 4 minutes early, I left my closet of an office and headed out to the grocery store to pick up something easy for dinner. Arena food perhaps? Ok, Hot Dogs Royale and Knishes it is. The lack of our pre-game show now gives me more time to be in the kitchen, but I'm really hating it. I loved our pre-game show. This really isn't fair.
As I started making myself cocktails by the drop of the first puck, it took all of two minutes to hear the Garden erupt into their "DiPi Sucks" chant. Of course that drew an immedite "Shut the F**K Up" from me in the kitchen. Since the antagonistic tone was set from the get-go, dinner actually waited until the end of the first period. Hey, that extra two minutes they added for TV time gives us just enough time to eat and clear the table, and get back on the couch.... with the second drink in hand.
The second period gave me cause to scream in fear at least a few times. Once so loudly the dog left the room. But it also gave me cause to celebrate... TWICE. Who would have thought that Vasichek would turn out to be a team leader? Who would have thought that "Tank" was such an emotional, hard working player? Who would have thought that Comrie was going to be as frustrating as Jason Blake? Uh... That one would have been me. Told ya.
Big Angry Man and I argued over the merit of Sean Bergenheim's play, as his new nick-name has become "Any Game Now." This is good and bad. Good because usually when BM starts riding a player, they produce. Bad because the ribbing I take from him makes me want to smother him with a pillow.
I just wish they wouldn't win these games by such small margins. I kept wishing for a few insurance goals in the third so I wouldn't have bitten my nails so badly. Every shift, every penalty, every blocked shot, every save made me nervously watch the clock. There was just so much on the line for both teams last night. It was a testament to Ted's coaching as they managed to shut Avery up, and shut Jagr down.
Congratulations 4CUPZ Tom on your OWN birthday win! Congratulations Ricky on your milestone win. 400 more and you catch Brodeur. You're got what? 13 more years to work on that.
And if anyone wants to know what Hot Dogs Royale are, they're the only thing I ever liked at a place called the Bagel Nosh which used to be housed outside the Broadway Mall, when it was called Mid Island Plaza. Kosher hot dogs, stuffed with American cheese, wrapped in crescent rolls with thinly sliced peppers and onions, and baked. Try it.
